Chris looked over at Jeremy, he looked strained. His posture was rigidly straight and his jaw was clenched tight."Jeremy?" Her tone was questioning...and probably too quiet for him to hear. She touched the back of his hand, it was clenched into a fist beside him. "What did you mean when you said, 'so his friends won't try to touch me again.' How did they touch you before?" Jeremy sounded angry and Chris froze, unaware that she'd said that, admitted that out loud. She'd never told anyone before now...she'd never been close enough to anyone to even 'admit' it let alone on accident.
"Well...you know." She swallowed and looked back down, drawing her hand back slowly. She felt ashamed...or tainted somehow. Not really good enough. "I-well you know, like I said that I'm not really that strong and they're all older and taller and everything so..." She had a feeling that he probably knew what she meant and hoped that it wouldn't be some sort or last straw before he deemed her unworthy of being around. "Um...I'll be right back." Chris got up, legs almost tangling in her haste to be out of the room before she would start crying or something. Sure he'd seen her tears before but that didn't mean she wanted it to happen again.
Chris found the bathroom by what must have been luck, the door was open and she closed it behind her. In the mirror, she saw what she usually saw; barely contained tears and a pale blur. She smoothed her hair down, and thought of how she'd kill right then to be in something different than that dress. Her emotions were still whirring out all over the place and out of nowhere, rain began to beat down on the windows. Lightning also lit the sky and thunder crashed loudly to accompany it. As she wiped an icy tear away, Chris wondered if Jeremy had figured out her weather thing yet...probably so.

"Well...you know." Chris said, looking ashamed and embarrassed. "I-well you know, like I said that I'm not really that strong and they're all older and taller and everything so....Um...I'll be right back." She said standing up. She stumble out of the room and Jeremy just sat there, too angry to do much of anything. He felt like punching a hole through every wall in his apartment. Jeremy stood up and marched throught his house, forgetting exactly where everything was, because he was so mad.
He stopped in the kitchen and got to glasses of ice water and took it to the living room. He sat there for a fewa minutes, waiting for Chris but quickly grew impatient. He stood up and went to the bathroom and knocked gently on the door. "Chris? Are you okay? I'm sorry if I upset you, but I just feel like I need to protect you... At all costs.." Jeremy said, feeling vulnerable.

Chris looked into the mirror, turning her face sideways to see the damage...other than slightly smudgy eyeliner, a wrinkled dress and bed-head hair, everything was in place. She was struck yet again by how lifeless she looked...except for her eyes which looked slightly hollow but the blue was startling in contrast. It always was. She smoothed her hair down until it looked semi-normal and tried yet again to get rid of the black dresses wrinkles. It didn't work. Sighing, she moved away from the mirror and flushed the toilet so that the bathroom trip wouldn't seem completely pointless to him. She washed her hands with the cold water--like always--because warm burned and made steam.
"Chris? Are you okay? I'm sorry if I upset you, but I feel like I need to protect you...At all costs.." Quietly, she opened the door and stepped out, feeling guilty for running out. Chris found it slightly odd that it hadn't been the Fallen Angel who'd driven her out almost in tears, but talking about herself. Now if that didn't make her 'messed up' then she didn't know what would.
Still through all that semi-out of place emotion, Jeremy saying that he wanted to protect her...it sent wild butterflies loose in her stomach. She liked the idea of that. Someone to protect her. "Sorry," Chris said back and without thinking about it, hugged Jeremy again. She was just a hugger, or so she was figuring out. Chris hadn't exactly had enough people to hug to know for sure. Then, she backed away yet again, biting her lip and feeling dumb for just outright hugging him. "Sorry." And saying that...it seemed to have become a habit.

Chris opened the door and looked up at him with sad eyes. "Sorry." she said quietly hugging him. She felt so cold and thought it made sense now, it still made Jeremy want to wrap his arms around her, to warm her up. She backed away and looked down abashedly. "Sorry." she said again, bitting her lip, which only made her look extremely cute to Jeremy. He stepped forward and put a gentle but firm hand under her chin, making her look at him. "Nothing to be sorry about. Can't say I didn't enjoy it." He said smiling down at her. "Well, if your up to it, I could drive you home so you can freshen up. I know I wouldn't like wearing the same clothes two days in a row. But that's only if your not to tired." Jeremy said, resisting the strong urge to pull her into a hug. Even though he didn't think Chris would mind, Jeremy needed to get his point across. If she didn't want to , she didn't have to. He was perfectly okay with her stay right where she was.

There she was, standing and feeling miserable in the placid silence when Jeremy's hand forced her to look up. He was smiling slightly and Chris felt a small portion of her minimal blood supply raise to her cheeks in what must have been the slightest blush in the history of ever. It was all she could manage. "Nothing to be worried about. Can't say I didn't enjoy it." Chris's lips tilted up into a smile. " And, if you're up to it, I could drive you home so you can freshen up. I know I wouldn't like wearing the same clothes two days in a row. But that's only if you're not tired." And there it went.
The smile slipped right off but after a moment, she found a composed expression. "S-sure." She swallowed. "I'd appreciate that." She would appreciate that. She felt exposed because of how short it was. She was usually a Jeans and Hoodie girl. Yet going home sounded like a punishment. It had to happen sometime though because she'd already caused him enough trouble.

The smile disappeared for a moment but Chris quickly recovered and pasted a new one on. "S-sure. I'd appreciate that." She said looking a little nervous. Jeremy nodded and went to put on a new shirt and retrieve his keys. She didn't want to go home but she was pretending like she did, and Jeremy didn't know why. He dug through his bag until he found his keys.
Jeremy stared at himself in the mirror for a long while, even though he knew Chris was waiting for him. He thought about her brother's friends and he face grew dark and angry. it shocked him slightly, that for the first time in a long time, he looked like he could kill someone. And he would given the chance. Whether Chris liked it or not, She was not getting out of Jeremy's sight unless he knew for sure that she was safe and she would only be safe with him. Until Haertzic came calling but he would cross and hopefully burn that bridge when he came to it. But until then, his only priority was the girl waiting for him in the living room. She was all that mattered right now.

The rain she'd made earlier with her lowering mood was turning into a storm; complete with thunder and lightning. ~*~ On the ride home, she was quiet. Not uncharacteristic--usually--for her. Though she'd seemed to be a little more talkative with Jeremy before. Mostly, it was the aspect of being home again in her white walled room with the blue quilt and the bare shelves. With the brother and the high friends. That's what locks on bedroom doors were for though...and they worked when she remembered they were there. Every once in a while she'd fall asleep; passed out by a book with the door unlocked and would regret it later when a wandering friend would pass by and notice her there. Usually she could wake up in time to slam the door shut and turn the deadbolt. Usually.
Chris was broken out of the reverie when a random car's horn honked loudly. She flinched; startled but then calmed back down. Glancing at Jeremy she said, "Thank you." She meant it for everything and nothing specific...as she waited for an answer Chris unclasped her necklace and held it in the palm of her hand turning it sideways and watching it flash in the filtered light.

Once in the car, things were strangely quiet. Not awkward, Jeremy just wasn't used to the silence, especially not with Chris. She had always been very talkative with him, not this quiet and withdrawn person that was in the car now. The more he thought about it, the more he wanted to say something, anything, just to hear her voice. Possible questions, ice-breakers, ran through his head, but he didn't know what to say.
The car in front of them honked loudly and Jeremy saw Chris jerk. She looked around, then back to Jeremy. "Thank you." She said again. "Its really no problem. But.... I do have a question for you. You don't have to answer but I was wondering if all this," He said, motioning to the storm brewing outside the car, "is you." They pulled away from the stoplight, plunging into traffic. He waited patiently for her answer. It didn't really matter if she answered him or not, he just wanted to hear her voice.

It was quiet for a really really long time and all Chris would think about was: when they got to her house, how Jeremy would probably just cast her off and drive away. Also how he should do that. Just drive away. But most importantly how much she didn't want him to. Yet it was inevitable. Eventually it was going to happen and she had a sinking feeling that sooner would come before later.
"It's really no problem. But...I do have a question for you. You don't have to answer but I was wondering if all this," He paused and made a gesture to the pelting rain,; referring to the sharp lightning and echoing thunder. "Is you?" A slow smile slipped into place. He had figured it out. Her smile grew crooked. "Yeah. I mean, yes it is.Pretty crazy huh?"
Now, she leaned back into the head-rest of the seat and sighed. She felt...tired again. Always tired and always cold. After a few more seconds of unwanted silence, Chris had an idea sort of. A way to show Jeremy what she could do or really just to see if she could. Who knew tonight: everything was off.
"Watch this." Chris leaned back again, closed her eyes and tried her hardest to relax and to let go. 'One, Two...' The rain stopped. It didn't slow or merely lessen in intensity...it completely stopped. Every bit of rainwater held in suspense fell and then it was quiet. "As long as I stay...relaxed, its calm. But when I let go," She let go and the weather resumed right where it had left off. "It's back." She opened her eyes and looked over at Jeremy; calculating his expression.

She smiled before answering. "Yeah. I mean, yes it is.Pretty crazy huh?" she looked around. "Watch this." Chris leaned back with her head against the headrest and closed her eyes. A few moments later the rain stopped. Just stopped, like the sky had run out of water. "As long as I stay...relaxed, its calm. But when I let go, it's back." She said, turning to look at Jeremy, who was in complete awe. His face broke into a huge smile as he looked at Chris. "Wow. The only thing cool about me is that I have wings. The whole weather thing is so awesome. Aside from you being cold all the time and the heart beat thing. Hey, I was wondering if it burns you to touch me, because my body temperature is way higher than the average persons." Jeremy said, looking at her. "And before I get us lost, where are we going?" He added, not having the slightest idea where he was going.

The smile that spread across Jeremy's face made Chris smile in response...and made butterflies take over her stomach in hyper-drive. Jeremy probably didn't even know how much his approval meant to her...because it meant a lot.
"Wow. The only thing cool about me is that I have wings. The whole weather thing is so awesome. Aside from you being cold all the time and the heart beat thing. Hey, I was wondering if it burns you to touch me, because my body temperature is way higher than the average persons." Jeremy said, looking at her. Chris turned her head to the side a little bit, a grin still in place. Your wings are amazing though...can you really fly?" The awe in her voice was almost unmistakable. "And...this might sound weird but here goes: it does burn...but not in a bad way. Kind of a good way. It's like...well I'm cold all the time and its amazing not to be. So I don't mind. Do I hurt you? Because I'm cold? Usually I hurt people...too cold. Like living frost bite." She hadn't noticed but since Jeremy had made her smile, the weather had died down. Whether he had meant to be or not, he was very good at distracting Chris from sulking.
"And before I get us lost, where are we going?" Chris pointed him in the right direction, which happened to be by Midnight Falls. The only good thing about her house. It was only a fifteen minute walk to the waterfall. (Her favorite place to hang out-especially when everything was rough.)

Chris smiled and tilted her head to the side. "Your wings are amazing though...can you really fly?" She asked, and Jeremy nodded. "And...this might sound weird but here goes: it does burn...but not in a bad way. Kind of a good way. It's like...well I'm cold all the time and its amazing not to be. So I don't mind. Do I hurt you? Because I'm cold? Usually I hurt people...too cold. Like living frost bite." Jeremy shook his head and smiled as he noticed the weather had calmed down. "No, It's exactly the same with me. It stings but in a good way." He said smiling at the thought.
Chris pointed him in the direction of her house. " Hey isn't Midnight Falls up here somewhere? I've always wanted to go there." Jeremy asked, trying not to reach over and take her hand. He didn't want to freak her out.

"Do you," Stopping, Chris hoped she wasn't overstepping a boundary line. "Do you think that I could see that, maybe, sometime?" She looked down, but peaked to see his reaction to the question. Chris had no idea how personal the fallen angel thing was. "See you fly?"
"I'm glad that I don't hurt you...that would be...that would be bad." Frowning, she contemplated that. Hurting Jeremy seemed not like a possibility--he was strong and seemingly tough; he was a fallen angel for crying out loud--but things like that happened to Chris. Freezing a butterfly and then feeling bad about it...being afraid to own a pet or to have friends. And then Jeremy asked her if if Midnight Falls was close to where they were...
"Yeah!" Chris beamed. Knowing that Jeremy knew about her place, her special place and even by its name was weirdly cool to her. It was kind of nice to be able to share special places with special people...if that's what Jeremy was. It's what he seemed to be at least; its not everyday that you come across a cute boy let alone a nice one with wings. An 'angel' actually even if the word 'fallen' went in front of that. "You've been there?" Eyebrows raised, she was still smiling and the rain was only a pleasant noise in the background with thunder accompanying it and lightening lighting the way.

"Well of course you can see me fly. You really should feel priviledged, no one's ever seen me fly before. How about we let you go home and change then we head out to Midnight Falls and I'll show-off for you?" Jeremy asked, glad to see she was feeling semi comfortable with him. And he was a little nervous about her seeing him fly. He didn't want to scare her but she had proved she could handle alot.

"Well of course you can see me fly." The thought of that excited Chris maybe more than it should...that and the thought of being the first to see him fly. Chris knew that if she had wings, she'd flaunt them every day...unless she wasn't supposed to... 'Will showing me get Jeremy in trouble?'
"That sounds great, Jeremy." Grinning, Chris realized she'd never been in such a hurry to go home. They were close now...pretty much just a block away. In those last few rows of houses, she tried to picture what she'd change into. What was clean? Maybe jeans....jeans sounded great right about now. As they drove, the houses began to thin out as the trees grew in density; letting them know that civilization was falling away and that nature--Midnight Falls--was nearby.
"There," she said, pointing to her modest home--the last house before the world met shadowy trees and various nocturnal animals.
