"It was a quiet and peaceful Tuesday afternoon, as Alex Morrigan made his way to the spot near Poseidon River where Madelyn, his new friend, said she would meet him. Even though he didn't know much about her, her simple charismatic charm had caught his eye and he wanted to get to know her better. Madelyn or Madi as she had asked him to call her on several occasions, was a very outdoorsy person, or at least that it what Alex had gathered from their previous talks. He didn't know anyone in Escape seeing as how he lived alone, and so he figured that a few allies and maybe even friends, might not be a bad idea. The pathway that lead to the beginning of the Poseidon Trail was smooth and pleasant as his feet crushed ever so gently on the gravel. It was most certainly a nice place to have some quiet time alone, but, it seemed somewhat odd to Alex that she would choose this of all places to meet him. But, nevertheless, this is where she had said she would meet him and so here he was. Later on, looking back at this moment, he would remember it all and say to himself Oh! how on Earth did I get so lucky? How indeed?" Attachments:

It was a really nice day for January. It was almost sixty degrees out! That made Madelyn ecstatic! It wasn't that she was a nature guru but she did appreciate sunshine. Especially after a couple months of gloomy gray clouds. It hadn't even rained. That was a bummer too. And when she'd initiated a place to hang out with her new friend Alex, it was naturally an outside place. Of course the grass wasn't perfect and green but the river there was still pretty in a way. The sky was bright blue with huge fluffy clouds and there was an oddly peaceful feeling in the air.
Today, Maddy wore jeans and a tank-top with a really thin yellow jacket on top. She'd also put on her glasses - something kind of unusual for her. She also wore a ring and necklace, belt, hat and fingerless brown gloves. She thought it was pretty good, but whatever. She didn't get the impression before, from Alex, that he was somebody she would need to strive to impress. Still...they didn't know each other well and shed thought of inviting her (hopefully!) boyfriend Landon along, just in case. But she didn't. She could stick up for herself.
When Madelyn got there, she smiled up to the picture-perfect sky and sat down on the grass ~ just beside the bridge. It's where they were supposed to meet. Who knew what they'd do? But still. She was up for escaping the condo for a bit and this seemed like the perfect way to do just that.

"Alex was beginning to think he had been stood up when finally out from along the way he spotted her in her all her get up. On most people Alex would have found her mix and match clothing annoying but for some reason on her it was endearing. He could really tell that she was in a good mood from the way that she skipped along the path and this brought a smile to his face. (Something that rarely happens) She was truly a sprightly little jump of a girl. I wonder what we are going to talk about, or what we will do he wondered. he didn't have much time to continue his inner babble because Maddy was only a few steps away. This is going to be interesting he decided. How right and yet how very wrong he was truly was." |

It was about five minutes before Madelyn decided something was up. Maybe Alex had actually stood her up. That hadn't really ever happened before; she'd never been stood up except for once in the third grade. But that was a totally different story. If she did turn out to be alone...then maybe the bouncy sunshine that reflected in the water wouldn't make her as happy anymore. Actually, there were some clouds on the horizon. That seemed like a bad Oman. She sighed and bit her lip, but then noticed somebody!
"Alex?" She asked, eyes wideish and got up to her feet with a grin. "Hey, you! I thought you'd bailed on me." Maddy bit her lip and held her arms loosely in front of her. He looked nervous. What was up with that? Or...maybe not nervous...just not...confident. But then again maybe that was how he always acted. She really didn't know him terribly well.
Her new friend smiled, then, though and it looked good on him. She hadn't seen him smiling much from the time they'd already had together. "You should smile more often," She said with a dimpled smile of her own. "Happy looks good on you." :3

"'If happy looked good on everyone would they smile?' Did I seriously just say that? Idiot! he thought. It had been so long since someone had taken an interest in him. So so very long. And besides, Maddy was such a nice girl, he didn't want to upset her. It might be wiser for him to have a friend, than to continue to got at life all alone, like he had always done. It hadn't worked very well thus far so a change might be in order.
'I really just wanted to see how it would look. I'm not really the smiling type. So what is it that you want to do? There really isn't much to do in this town is there?' he said. Way to go Morrigan, if you're lucky she is just gonna think you are a jerk. Idiot. For some reason Alex just couldn't stop beating himself up. It was as if to himself, he couldn't do anything right. She had thought the same thing he thought. But that was behind him. Or, at least, it should have been." |

"Well I don't know if they would...but they should." She smiled and then pulled out her phone when it buzzed. It was a text from her friend--practically her little sister--Willa. 'I'm bored' :( was what it said. Maddy turned her head to the side, starting to come up with an idea. "That's too bad." she said, referring to Alex's statement of not being a very smiley guy. "But I dunno... it can be fun if you know how to make it that way. Like...have you ever been to a grocery store and had a good time? It should be a totally boring place but if you're with the right people it can be fun." She smiled then, pleased with her comparison. But what could they do to peak Alex's interest? What could she do to convince him that this town really wasn't so horrible? "Actually...my friend is texting me about being bored...would you mind if she joined us? She's a lot of fun." Maddy asked and moved closer to her new friend Alex. ________________________________________________________ note;; took forever. "'Sure. I don't mind.' He said. She probably just wants someone else to be here so she feels safer around the freaky new kid. he though. He wondered what her friend would be like. Was it a boy or a girl? He didn't know. After awhile he finally got up the nerve to ask her. 'So who is your friend? Is it that girl Willa I saw you with earlier the other day. The sprightly one?' He said. 'Id totally be okay with her tagging along. So are we really going to the grocery?' He saif as he managed to produce a half smile. Not exactly a handsome smile but it would have to do." |

"Yepp. that would be her!" Madelyn smiled, wondering when Alex had seen her and Willa together. She wished he'd said hi, wherever it was. "That's a good word for her...sprightly." Yes, that definitely was a good word for Willa. "I think you'll really like her," Madelyn smiled as she texted Willa that she should join them. "Sure," Madelyn laughed at Alex's question. "I'm up for going wherever you want." She was having a good time so far and they hadn't really even done anything. Her mood was just good right then. "That's a wonderful idea," Madelyn said brightly with a satisfyingly pretty smile. "I can't wait till you meet her...and I can't wait to meet this Karina." Maddy fluttered her eyelashes in a fake flirt when she said the word 'Karina' - teasing Alex lightheartedly. "C'mon let's start that way." Madelyn said and grabbed Alex's hand. She'd taken her car here...they could take that if he didn't mind. "So...what's she like?" She definitely did know how being around a crush left you tongue tied and helpless...she was like that around every guy, usually, except for Landon. Well...sometiems especially Landon. Usually the two were very good together though. "But yes, it's definitely cool."Madelyn took this opportunity to tell Willa where they'd be going and to ask (through text) whether or not she'd need a ride. You never knew with Willa. Turns out, Willa didn't need a ride after all (for once). They were all supposed to meet up at the place Alex had specified; claiming it to be good for pictures. It was a good thing they all either had talent as a model or passion as a photographer. This was an exciting outlet for all her bottled up creativity. And she didn't know if Alex was a regular with having his picture taken, but she knew she'd make sure he was included in the modeling too. "Does Karina need a lift?" Maddy absolutely didn't mind. As Alex got into the car he was bombarded with questions from Maddy about Karina and such. 'Well she's the same age as us. She has long golden blonde hair and sea-green eyes that sparkle in the sunlight. Her favorite color is yellow and she wears a lot of it. She has the brightest personality you could ever imagine. Like the very Sun is personified in her. She volunteers at an animal shelter and she is a vegetarian. She hates the sound of her voice when she sings but it's the most beautiful sound I have ever heard.'
With all the talk of Karina and such, Alex hardly noticed his phone go off with Claire de Lune as her ringtone. He checked his phone and found a reply from her in urgent messages.
"I'd love to! Where do I need to meet you?"
Hey Maddy, would it be alright if we go pick Karina up? She says she'd love to come! The smile on his face could have cured cancer. I can't believe that she would ever want to be around me. Is this real life. no it wasn't and it was BETTER than fantasy. |

"Wow..." Madelyn pulled away from the wooded area they'd been occupying with an expression struck with awe. That was one of the sweetest things she'd ever heard and helped her know that she really did like Alex. She didn't like him the same way she liked Landon...that was unparalleled, but she did like him like a brother she never had. She wasn't sure why, but somewhere inside her there was a protective spark coming to life - she wanted Alex to be happy. "That's really great, Alex. I really can't wait to meet her now.""Of course it's all right," Madelyn beamed back~ finding Alex's smile ultra-contagious.  Karina had just gotten off work when her cell phone chimed in with Bruno Mars "Just the Way You Are". Alex had texted her! She wondered what on earth it could be about. They had only spoken a few short times but she couldn't help falling for him. He was kind and sweet, albeit shy and recluse, but none the less sweet because of it. There was something calming about him that she clung to. Seeing as how Karina was such a high energy person it was only natural that she would be more attracted to a calmer individual. The part she didn't want to admit was that there was of course another reason she found Alex attractive. She would never say why out loud though. He would surely laugh at me were he ever to find out about 'that'. But nevertheless for the time being Alex was interested and that was all that she cared about. After sending a quick message to Laura letting her know she would be out with friends Karina changed out of her lab coat and into her favorite outfit and proceeded to text Alex to pick her up at the shelter. Now she would just have to play the waiting game. |

It didn't take long for Karina to reply. Another little to second Claire De Lune chimed in and with a message that read: "Can you pick me up at the animal shelter. I just got off work  " Even though Alex didn't think that it would be a big deal he didn't want to take advantage of Maddy's good will so he decided the polite thing to do would be to ask her if that would be okay. "Hey Maddy?Would it be alright if we picked her up at the animal shelter? I know it's a bit out of our way but I didn't really know what else to tell her. I'm sorry. For some reason all of a sudden Alex felt bad about the whole thing. Maybe this isn't such a good idea after all. |

"Sure," Madelyn smiled and tucked a stray hair back into place absently as she lost herself in the every-day task of driving aimlessly. She was used to going nowhere for fun. It's kind of how her life went... 'nowhere for fun'. "So..." she said after a minute of just music, silence and a bit of inevitable awkwardness. "How've you been lately, Alex?" She glanced at him with a small smile as they stopped at a red light. Maddy was pretty sure (but not positive) where she was going.
