Jinx had umped out of his shower and into his clothes super duper quickly. He purposely picked a blue shirt that matched his 'cookie monster' boxers...but then later spilled jelly on it. So~ he settled on a green plaid one instead.
Jinx had had a hell of a time getting away from home...his mom was mad at him because she didn't know he was going out and needed a sitter' for Emily. (Jinx's Five year old sister.) But...last minute she'd called up an old nanny and he had slipped out their side door, got in the car and was on the road. Within no time he had the car's top down; wind whipping at his hair and screamo music positively blasting. Which was just the way he liked it.
By the time he'd reached Carter's familiar house, his hair had air dried but was nowhere near straight. To his misfortune...it was wavy and sort of all over the place. Not at all how he wanted it for tonight's 'event'. Jinx would ask Carter to loan out his hair straightener as soon as he could.
Briskly, he pulled the keys and Bring Me The Horizon cut off; replaced by weird silence. Carter's street was 'depressing as hell' or so Jinx said. There were never people outside, the grass wasn't green even though it should be and the neighbors did not take care of their houses. Carter's house looked fabulous but only because he had the pride to keep it that way. Believe it or not, he'd even planted the flowers in their front garden. At the time, Jinx had teased him for having 'like...zero masculinity' but it sure did look nice now.
Jinx frowned; his skinny black pants were a bit loose still...even though he had on his belt. He'd tighten it later or something. He didn't bother with knocking or ringing a doorbell... For one, they didn't have a doorbell and for two...he practically lived here as much as Carter did. "Yo!" He yelled as the door slammed closed. He found Carter in his room, leaning over a book.
"Hola broha'... Whew!" Jinx said but paused; a wicked grin lit his eyeliner-enhanced face. "Lookin' sexy, you nerd." He said and grinned when Carter flinched; surprised.
Sure enough... "Oh... hey. You scared me," Carter's voice broke just a tiny bit but he cleared his throat to hide it. Jinx's smile became crooked a 'mock evil grin'. "Well...sorry. But...hey! Can I use your straightener for this mess?" He said and pointed to his crazy windblown hair. Carter nodded yes and looked back down as Jinx left the room. He had just walked out when Carter seemed to remember what he'd said. Carter said, "How can somebody be sexy and be a nerd at the same time?" followed by a laugh. Jinx only laughed and called back, "You tell me," ooc;; finally! right? tag;; carter, jinx, jazzy// dance pic;;; click

*Squeek* The car's seat groaned as Carter wiggled once again. At that, he gritted his teeth and sent a 'whoops' expression to Jinx who had just rolled his eyes. Carter had already been endlessly teased about how 'fancy' *weird accent* he was dressed...as if it were a crime to look good for a formal dance. Or semi-formal at least. He just stuck his tongue back out at Jinx who snickered again.
They were now passing through a rather creepy and unlit section of town...not the best place to be at night but they were safe inside Jinx's 'work-in-progress' car. (The car really was a lot better looking than when it had been given to him for his sixteenth'.) They were both quiet all the way through the darkness though Jinx seemed to have something to say when the street lights were back and it wasn't so desolate. He turned to Carter, mouth opening and then closing with a snap. The hard light had made metal flash...on Carter's face.
Carter didn't have glasses on now, nor did he have braces...so that could only mean one thing. One thing Jinx hadn't noticed earlier. The car screeched to a halt and Carter jumped in his seat; flailing for a hand hold so that his head wouldn't thunk the window at their sudden stop.
Nobody was behind them, so that was nothing to worry about. However...both boys now seemed to suffer from mild whip-lash. "Holy shit!" Jinx yelled as a look between shock and weird humor came across his face. Carter's heart hadn't started beating again yet...his stomach was in his throat and he felt near sick from their sudden stop'. (He'd always been prone to motion sickness.)
"What!?" Carter yelled back, looking around, eyes wide. He hadn't been wearing a seatbelt so his knees had slid forward into the dash. He would bet that they were bruised now. Jinx's eyebrows came down a bit and he pointed at Carter's face. "What the hell is that?" He asked and touched one of the two small metal piercings that now graced Carter's bottom lip.
Carter looked down only to realize that; of course he couldn't see his chin...peoples eyes just didn't work that way. But he knew...Jinx was referring to his new addition; snake bites. Carter just didn't understand why Jinx seemed to be so angry though...he'd been pushing for Carter to get some sort of piercing since they were fourteen. By then, Jinx already had one metal bar through his eyebrow, three ear piercings and a nose ring. Of course, now some of them had closed but he still wore quite a fair amount of metal.
"It's snake bites, idiot." Carter grinned sideways at Jinx who's mouth was still kind of open. "What? You don't like it?" He asked and then looked down; fake pouting. Or at least half... What if Jinx really didn't like it? Too damn bad, a small voice in his head said. They weren't for him anyway. They were for Jazzy.
"I know what they are..." Jinx said and began driving the car again. The next time he talked, they were stopping at their final destination: Echapper. There were couples getting out of their cars, packs of girls whispering together...yes it was social event and a high school one at that.
Carter opened his car door and stepped out. "What's wrong with me having them?" He asked, almost defensively. Jinx looked at him and rolled his eyes. "You got them for her didn't you?" His tone was slightly acidic.
Carter was confused...since when did Jinx not like his (hopefully) -soon-to-be-girlfriend? They hadn't even met. He answered anyway with a "Yes?". It came out as a question. Jinx just waved his hand, banishing the weird feeling that was taking over him. 'Jealousy? What the hell?'
"Why would you get them for her when I've been asking you for years?" Jinx and Carter walked side by side to the entrance where a few girls watched them with weird expressions. Those girls were ignored by Carter and winked at by Jinx. Carter was about to answer when he spotted Jazzy... she was across the room they had just entered and she. looked. great.
Carter's mouth stretched into a wide smile; causing him to wince slightly at the twin stings of his new snake bites. They'd been sore for a while...but nothing he couldn't handle. Probably from taking them out and putting them back in so many times. He didn't think you were supposed to do that. But he did it anyway. Like when Jinx got there...he hadn't been wearing them though while Jinx was in the bathroom, Carter decided to put them on and that this would be a good time to surprise Jazzy with them.
He then forgot about Jinx and his silly questions as he walked airily to Jazzy. His grin was still plastered in place as he reached her. "Hello gorgeous," He smiled, biting his bottom lip briefly before leaving in for a swift kiss; Catching her slightly off guard. Right now, He didn't know where Jinx was and frankly didn't care. Even though, in the back of his mind, he found that a rude way to feel.
Jinx thought it was rude too, as he stood quite a few feet back...feeling his stomach--as well as his grin--flip. Jazzy was pretty..he observed. And that was good for Carter...he would've been proud had it not been for the weird jealousy that had sprung up. He didn't know what it meant..he just knew that he didn't like it. ooc;; urg... well this is both Carter & Jinx's reply mashed into one. Jinx stood by the punch bowl wearing a frown. His stomach was beginning to hurt as was his head and he didn't get it. He'd felt just fine at Carter's house...actually he'd been fairly ecstatic then; ready for anything tonight could throw at him. But now... he didn't know.
The punch helped...somebody had obviously spiked it despite the rules and hadn't been caught. The alcohol helped to dull his roller-coaster feelings. At first he'd felt sick and now; watching the two love birds (Jazzy and Carter) he felt angry. He wanted to hit something...he wanted to throw up and he wanted to fall asleep. Not necessarily in that order.
Eventually, they pulled away from each other. Jazzy kissed Carter on the cheek and disappeared into the crowd. Without his new friend to accompany him...Carter looked lost. He had never been one for crowds. And the way he stood there--just looking around--made him look like a kid.
With a sigh, Jinx pushed away from the punch bowl and went to go stand with his newly abandoned friend. He had just reached Carter and they'd looked at each other before a loud voice filled the room. Carter flinched and Jinx's eyes snapped up to find the source.
Jazzy had climbed the stairs to a small stage where some band had set up to make some sort of announcement. Her announcement was thanking people 'Carter especially' his mind mocked her voice. It went all soft when she said his name. Did she realize that? Did she realize that Carter smiled and sort of blushed when she thanked him? The other people that had apparently helped...he hadn't heard of. Two other girls who were probably here somewhere.
With perfect timing, the DJ played music and Jinx assumed the announcement was over. Then, Jinx turned to his friend and put on a smile. "Girlfriend is hot," he winked and hoped that Carter wouldn't notice anything off about him. The punch had sort of calmed him down. He definitely felt less reserved.
Carter made some gushy-boyfriend like response to her 'hope you liked it!' thing and then introduced Jinx. Jinx smiled but didn't try to shake her hand,,,that is until it seemed clear that she really wanted him to. Then he did. "Oh really?" He wondered what Carter had told her. Anything good? Bad things?
It then became awkward so Jinx took another sip of his punch and a song came on. Then the two love birds went to dance. Jinx looked down at the red drink and frowned. Now he felt sad. 'What's wrong with me! Surrounded by girls and I'm feeling sad? Must be really sick...' He thought and walked out some random door. It led to a small patio. Nobody was out there so he just went to sit on the closest bench and slumped back.
Maybe, if he was lucky, some hot girl would come distract him. That was what he needed. Something to take his mind off of Carter. Jinx hadn't known that he was a possessive person...but obviously now that Carter had another friend; another close person in his life...Jinx didn't like it. He took another drink. "Thank you," Carter grinned and then winced again. He ignored the slight pain. Smiling hurt, kissing hurt, talking hurt. Mostly the snake bites were a pain but Jazzy's smile made it worth while. She seemed to be pleased.
'As long as somebody likes them,' Carter thought with a slight frown. He had just then remembered Jinx and was going to look for him when Jazmine's comment caught his attention. "Do they?" Did snake bites make kissing better? He honestly wouldn't know. Jazzy shouldn't either if he really was her first kiss. So...he took to teasing her about it. But all in good humor.
"Jazmine..." His tone was mock-scolding. "Have you been kissing other boys?" He tried to fake a hurt expression before smiling slightly. Then, she kissed him back and he had to admit...it was more interesting than before.
It seemed that both teenagers realized that they were being stared at at the same time. Carter faintly remembered one of Jazzy's own rules of no PDA but that was a silly rule anyway. Of course there would be PDA at a dance. And he hoped...maybe that she might have changed her mind about the rule. If not...they would be in trouble.
Not long after that, she gave him a kiss on the cheek and left. She was to be right back. He nodded and then began to look around...for once feeling sort of stranded in the mass of people. Nobody paid much attention to him though he had the strange feeling that somebody was watching. He gulped and looked over to the stage. Jazzy was just climbing the steps when he noticed Jinx back beside him. He offered his friend a normal smile and then turned his attention back to Jazzy.
She thanked him for helping, first. It had been easy and fun to help her prepare for this dance...and it made him happy to see that it had turned out so well. Everybody seemed to be having a really great time. Just after her announcement, Jinx leaned close and said 'girlfriend is hot.' with a Jinx-like smirk. Carter had to agree. Jazzy looked stunning in her dress. Her hair was slightly different...too. He made a note to tell her how much he liked it, later.
Ten minutes later...Carter found himself introducing Jinx to Jazzy. He sent a glare at Jinx, wondering what his problem was. He wasn't usually so rude...quite the opposite actually. What would be wrong with him now? His hair was fine, there were girls surrounding them and it was a party scene. What more would Jinx want?
He didn't get the chance to find out because before he knew it, he was dancing with Jazzy. He looked back to find Jinx but he had disappeared again. As the song ended, he was beginning to feel worried. He didn't even know why...just some protective instinct or something. He wanted Jinx to be having a good time...and he knew that his friend would be drinking tonight. Surely he wouldn't have tried to walk off without the car?
"Jazzy...I'm kind of worried about Jinx. He's been acting weird." They had walked away from the dance floor then. "Would you help me look for him? Please? I know it sounds silly but...he's just acting really weird." He squeezed Jazzy's hand then and added; "I'll check the bathroom." Before walking away. For whatever reason... he felt slightly responsible. ooc;; finally! right? tag;; carter, jinx, jazzy// dance pic;;; click

Jinx had the hiccups. It was miserable! And his drink was pretty much gone. The combination of those things and the Carter thing made him want to leave. Or...go get another drink and dance with as many people as possible. He was about to get up when the door opened and of ALL people...she walked out. He almost threw his arms up in exasperation. 'What does she want? To rub it in my face?...Wait...rub WHAT in my face?' he was confusing himself completely.
He just sat his cup down beside him and stared at the ground ahead of him. Maybe she'd leave when she noticed the space was occupied. Maybe Jinx would win the lottery. Maybe he never had any luck at all and she picked the same bench he was sitting on. Great.
"Hi," He mumbled and began to scuff his converse against the wood floor of the outdoor room. She didn't say anything for a minute; she only looked at him and he began to feel uncomfortable. What was she thinking? He wanted to know. But he wasn't going to ask.
"Jinx," He stiffened and turned his head questioningly her way at the sound of his own name. What did she have to say? Was it about Carter? Was she going to tell him that he was a bad influence for Carter too? How many times had he heard that. Jinx sighed.
But she said a lot of other things that surprised him more than anything. Things that were mostly true. He honestly wasn't fond of Jazzy Rayne but that wasn't her problem. It was his...his bad attitude or something. And also that she wouldn't take Carter away, that she would let Jinx be Carter's first priority because that's how it should be. And last but not least, that she didn't want Jinx to hate her.
His angry resolve had lessened during her speech...she just had a way with words or something. He pressed his lips together and looked at her now. Trying to figure out her motives for 'comforting'? him.
"I don't hate you...I think I'm jealous." He said with a funny expression. The word seemed weird when in context with Carter. Carter wasn't anybody to be jealous over. He'd never liked Carter that way. Not until Jazzy came into the picture anyway. You always want what you can't have.
"He's lucky though." Jinx looked over again and attempted a smile. It was then that he noticed how close they were sitting. Before; he was sure that the alcohol hadn't messed with him at all...that he would need tons more to lose control. But it was obviously doing something to his judgment. Or maybe he was just a dick. Or maybe...
"You really are very pretty. He's lucky." He smiled slightly then and leaned closer. She didn't move away...and somewhere in his clouded brain that meant something more than it should have. So...he leaned closer again and kissed her. He didn't mean to...it sort of took him by surprise. But he liked it...and he knew it was wrong. By the time Jazzy had kissed him back, Jinx was lost to the world. If he did say so, he was a very good kisser. Jazzy wasn't bad either which meant one of two things... she'd had lots of practice...or she was just a natural. Either way; Jinx wasn't the only one to blame here. They were equally betraying a person they cared for.
They were betraying Carter and Jinx wasn't doing anything to stop it. Neither was Jazzy though...it had just happened and it was painfully continuing to happen. He knew that they'd be caught eventually somewhere in the back of his very clouded mind. But that thought was pushed aside when Jazzy's hand touched his cheek.
And then it hit him; he was kissing Jazzy. 'Ew...' He stopped and pulled away short of breath. Not that Jazzy was gross or anything...just...he didn't like her that way. she was the bad guy...right? Right?
At the moment; Jinx felt like the bad guy. "Well, then..." Jinx said without any trace of a smile. Thank God they hadn't been caught, Jinx thought. That was when he heard the thud.
Jinx looked up just in time to see Carter--of courseas he tripped over a small plant and fell. His throat began to constrict as Carter's eyes met his, swung over to Jazzy and then came back to Jinx. Carter looked...stunned. He didn't waste any time scrambling up and running back inside. Jazzy must have seen Jinx's expression and known because she looked back too, in time to see Carter's retreating figure.
"Well...his ankle is gonna hurt like a bitch." Jinx said and frowned. A whole lot more than that was going to be hurt. Like...Carter's trust. Jinx didn't want to lose that. They'd spent thirteen years building it up into an almost unbreakable friendship. 'Too late now...' ooc;; -- now i'll reply with carter~ tag;; carter, jinx, jazzy// dance pic;;; click

Jinx hadn't been in the bathroom but Carter had stayed in there a moment longer than necessary...just to look in the mirror. He had changed. Besides the obvious--snake bites--he didn't look so sullen. He wasn't as dependent on Jinx for company. He was...happier. Except for now...he was worried.
Jazzy was missing too. He stopped to ask Madelyn--a girl he'd met through Jazzy--if she'd seen her. Luckily enough, she had. He thanked her and left.
The door was still open just a tiny bit but it was really heavy. It didn't have any windows in it; just solid wood. It opened quietly and he walked out easily and carefully. Half expecting to find his two compadres' jumping at each others throats in anger.
And then he stopped dead in his tracks. He was only five or so yards away but it was clear to see that they were jumping at eachother's throats. Just not in the way he'd imagined. Not in a fight...but..kissing.
At first, he just stared because he didn't get it. They hated each other...right? Or Jinx hated Jazzy. And then Carter got it...he was Jealous of Carter! Because he wanted Jazzy all to himself. Carter felt sick. He couldn't stand there a moment longer.
In his haste to leave, Carter backed up into a potted plant and fell. He let out a small yelp then but hurried to get up on his feet anyway. Without much of a second thought he launched back inside; knocking over a dancing couple in his haste to get back to the bathroom. He was going to be sick..
Ever since Carter was a kid he never really cried. When he was upset, he got sick. And he was really sick now. Tears stung his eyes only after he threw up and sat back against the tiled floor and wall.
'Why would she do that?' He thought miserably and flushed the toilet so that the ugly smell would go away. He kept thinking about his two...friends and what he was going to do now. It was Jazzy's party and Jinx's car that got him here. So he supposed that he'd have to walk home. That sounded good until he realized he'd have to walk through the creepily dark part of town again.
His ankle was hurting, his throat hurt, his stomach hurt, his head hurt and his feelings were hurt which was the worst part. The other worst part was that when he'd fallen; his pants leg ripped just near his ankle. Now he'd have to buy the damn suit. Tonight wasn't going his way. Carter flinched when the door opened; thinking that he maybe should have locked himself in the stall. The last thing he needed was some jock guy giving him trouble about 'crying in the bathroom'. He wasn't crying...it was just...okay maybe a little bit but mostly it was because he was shaken from throwing up. He was still trembling hard from it too.
Mostly he had been thinking about 'what next'? And also trying hard not to think of what he'd just seen. Obviously he couldn't ignore it...it would catch up with him soon--sooner than he'd though; as a panic-ridden Jazzy sped through the door.
"Carter," She said his name and he looked up. His eyes were big and watery but hers were the same. You'd think that Carter had hurt her rather than the opposite. Maybe Jinx had hurt her... all he could do with that thought was, 'I'm going to kill him.' He stood up then, albeit a bit shakily and took a step closer to his ...well to Jazzy. He didn't know what they were anymore.
The next thing that he heard froze him to where he stood. Jazzy said that she was soo sorry...he was sorry too. And she said that...she initiated the kiss which was the thing that threw him (mentally) sideways. All he could say was "Why?" But it was too quit. He didn't think she even heard. Of course he hadn't known Jazzy terribly long but from what he knew...this wasn't like her. Yes calling herself names was in her character...but only because she didn't think of herself as highly as she should. As highly as Carter thought of her. Even now.
She left in a flurry of heels and tears and Carter felt just awful. Girls crying always made him uneasy...and this was a mess. He hadn't really done anything wrong but he still felt like he needed to fix it. Either fix it or go get drunk for the second time in his life. The first was Jinx's doing but they'd had fun that night anyway. Partying it up.
He wanted to tell Jazzy that she wasn't those things...but he couldn't make his feet work right. They wanted him to go sit back down in that bathroom stall and just hole up forever. But he couldn't do that. That wouldn't do anybody any good. Instead, he shuffled three steps over to the mirror.
What he saw was a red-eyed version of himself. He looked disheveled and not in the good way. And the snake bites were like two slaps in the face. One screamed 'Jinx hated this!' the other, 'Jazzy loved this...it makes kissing better.' He wanted them both out. Now. He didn't bother to do it gently because he didn't care. Once they were out, he dropped them on the floor and left.
Jazzy wasn't the girl to cry in the corner; she would have left. Probably went home. If he had a car he might have gone there but instead he went outside. Jinx was his ride but that didn't mean he would talk to him on the way home. Jinx was sitting on the curb and he had been since Jazzy took off. He knew Carter and knew that if they were both coming at him with pleas to be forgiven...Carter would lose it and do something stupid. He could never chose between anything.
For example, when Jinx's mother asked Carter which flavor of Popsicle he would want...he'd sit there for a minute and think hard just because he wouldn't want to choose wrong. Over a Popsicle. And his best friend and girlfriend ...well that subject was obviously a bit heavier. In the back of his mind... the question was floating around. 'Who would he choose? If he had to?' Jinx wasn't sure that he wanted to know the answer.
He'd spared himself from getting even more drunk so that he could at least do one thing right; driving Carter home without killing him. Wouldn't that be icing on the cake. The guilt of a lifetime and the definite end to their friendship. More than friendship really. Something between best friends and brothers.
Jinx looked up; started when Jazzy ran by. Her heels were unnervingly loud on the concrete and the flock of girls still sitting at the door were staring. Jinx wanted a smoke...but he wouldn't do that. Because Carter hated it. Carter didn't need any more reason to hate him now.
'Should I follow her?' He thought and pursed his lips. She'd probably smack him. He had started it; initially ruined the whole thing. The next time the door swung open, it was Carter and he looked serious as cancer. Jinx gulped and took a step back at the odd expression. It was something between 'wounded puppy' and 'raging mad teenager'. It was dangerous...he decided then and there that he didn't' want Carter going after Jazzy. He had no idea what his friend would do like this.
So, he got into the drivers seat silently and waited for Carter to join him there. ooc;; -- hope you don't mind this... tag;; carter, jinx, jazzy// dance pic;;; click
The car was silent as Carter buckled up his seatbelt and waited for Jinx to go. He didn't though and Carter looked over to find his friend staring out the windshield like a weirdo. "Are we leaving...or is the view too spectacular?" Carter said with a sigh. It wasn't like him to be malicious but he was past the limit. The 'polite limit'. He was angry...and hurt...until Jinx finally said something that he hadn't been expecting.
"I started it, you know." Jinx's voice was quiet but he finally started the car. Carter couldn't say that he was surprised, exactly...he had figured that much. "Why?" Carter asked, not looking at his friend but out his passenger window. The glass was rolled down and the air smelled like rain and exhaust from other cars. Jinx may or may not have answered him...if he did then Carter was distracted and probably didn't hear it. Because at that moment, he spotted Jazzy.
Very uncharacteristic for Carter, he swore and took off his seatbelt. Jazzy wasn't in her car on the way home and she wasn't' back at her party...she was sitting down against a brick wall; cradling her arm to her chest. He wasn't sure if he wanted to know what she'd done.
"Stop," Carter said and Jinx looked at him; perplexed until he noticed Jazzy too. He then pulled to a stop and let his friend out. He didn't leave though he did pull up five or so yards to give them some space. Carter wasn't' sure that Jazzy had even noticed the car or him but she would...eventually. He hoped she wasn't hurt bad.
Quietly, he went to go stand by that brick wall before sinking down beside her. It reminded him of that night at the pool. He hadn't done anything wrong then either but still he had been the one doing the comforting. He didn't mind it though. He was just that kind of person.
"Hi," He said, sort of dumbly but unable to come up with anything better. Honestly, he was just afraid that she would walk off again. That would be the last straw for him. He was beginning to feel sick again at that thought. words;;; 411 ooc;; godmodding here but its my character so...xD tags;; jazzy, carter, jinx, @echapper muse;;; eh..

Carter didn't look at Jazzy until she looked at him--not quite feeling the love or frankly; the energy to do it--instead he just stared ahead at the glossy blacktop. It must have rained when they were inside or something... he hadn't noticed it before.
After Jazzy's short reply of 'hey' she suggested telling Jinx to leave. Did that mean she would give Carter a ride home? Or that she just wanted Jinx gone that badly? He didn't know what he'd gotten himself into until now... but what did one do after something like this? Usually people break up with their girlfriends or boyfriends if they turn up to be cheating. But Jazzy said she wasn't... that she was 'practicing'. That was just about the biggest load of bull shit he'd ever heard. Carter himself would have been just fine with helping her 'practice'. That is, if she was ever really interested in him anyways. But... what else was there to be interested in? He didn't have any money or extreme talent; just personality and plenty of it.
Thinking back, maybe he should have just gone home with Jinx but then Jazzy seemed to be really hurting by the way the night had gone. He wondered what he would have done if the situation were reversed. He would have been sick with guilt just like he was sick with confusion and worry. Worry that he was losing his two best friends.
Carter couldn't help but to notice Jazmine's consistent tears when he sat back down beside her with a sigh. The cement was wet and uncomfortable to sit on but he didn't mind. He produced a few tissues from his jacket pocket before taking it off to drape over her bare shoulders. If he was wearing that little he would be freezing.
He listened without interrupting noticing that she--at first--seemed nervous. Nervous of what? He wouldn't do anything to hurt her... and hoped that she knew that. The last--about being wary of Jinx--was ridiculous. He may be a flirt but he wouldn't ever hit a girl and more than that he wouldn't force someone into doing something. She wasn't as completely innocent in this as he wanted her to be.
In his mind, he had to think over and over; Jinx is a flirt... he kisses everybody. Jazzy shouldn't have let him do it. But... everybody messes up; he knew that. He just never knew how much it hurt to be on the receiving end of those messes. And it did hurt...between a newly building headache, his sore snake-bite-less lip, dumb ankle and stinging feelings...it just wasn't pleasant.
Carter jumped when Jazzy fell over into his side but wasn't so shocked that he didn't' respond. Slowly he lowered his arms--that had been raised in surprise--down to alternately pat and rub her back. She was really very emotional now and he was just lost for what to do. "I'm so sorry too, Jazzy." He said quietly.
After a couple moments of silence he said--equally quietly--... "Jinx wouldn't do that to you, you know. He's not a bad guy... wouldn't dream of hurting you and that's a promise. I bet..." He sighed. "I bet he's feeling just as bad as you do...and as bad as I do." Carter looked down at his shoes which were scuffed. His hair was completely disheveled from everything and his clothes were in complete disarray. That combined with Jazzy's bloody mess of a dress, they were a sight for sore eyes.
"C'mon... lets go fix your hand," He said with as much of a smile as he could manage which regretfully wasn't his usual best. He tried to shift then to stand and help Jazzy up but it was sort of awkward. His dumb ankle kept up a dull throb that made him wince. They really were quite a sight. Carter looked off to the side when Jazzy got up too; frowning at a scroungy cat just five yards away. "I cant help it... I do feel bad... I wish I didn't." After that, he continued with: "No, you're right... its not unreasonable. But... I just wanted you to know that Jinx is okay."(an okay person)
There was no protest on the way to her car. He was thinking that finally he'd be home as Jazzy made her phone call. He was slightly ashamed at the three of them; causing such a mess at a party. Other than listening to her short speech about the past, Carter zoned out.
"Don't ever apologize for being scared of something like that... anyone would be. I would be. I'm scared for you... just thinking about it." Pause " And I have no idea what Jinx has going though his head. I don't really want to think about it..." Carter trailed off; promising to call Jinx later. Maybe.
Carter blinked up at the house they'd stopped at once, twice, three times because it wasn't his. He'd been thoughtful and quiet for most of the relatively long trip there and now... now he was looking up at her dazzling mansion. A place so manicured and perfect yet the last place he wanted to be. He just... wanted to be home. He wanted to go hide under the sheets and cry just a bit without anybody knowing. He wanted his thoughts in a place that was familiar to him. A place a bit less gloomy than the train tracks. A place like his room... but they were here and he was honestly curious why.
If Jazzy was going to leave him... what was he to do in this place? This nasty lovely place that made you feel like a foreigner upon entering with its mostly white color palate and spectacularly tidy rooms. It looked unused except for the few rooms that Jazzy obviously frequently inhabited. He wasn't sure if Jazmine had spoken to him since they'd pulled into the large garage but didn't ask. He was tired of being cool with everything but he'd keep it up as long as he was in hers and Jinx's company.
Not long after, he found himself sitting on her couch with his leg propped with an ice-pack. He didn't think he needed it but the large bruise forming there suggested otherwise. He said 'thanks'--of course--but very quietly. After that he was alone in her living room feeling really tired and kind of sore all over. He wanted to sleep and was thinking about it when Jazzy came back in. He didn't' bother to straighten his back; and continued slouching and staring ahead. She set something down on the coffee table in front of him and said to put those things in his lips. He knew what they were then but didn't want them in his lips.
Carter still hadn't moved a half hour later and the jewelry had remained untouched. The only difference was that he'd dozed off--probably looking as worn out as he felt--sitting in the torn black tuxedo with a few blood smears from Jazzy. His jacket was gone and he had no idea where it had ended up but his stark white shirt made the new stains appear vividly.
'Hey,' a close voice said. Carter jumped slightly and blinked as the world slowly adjusted back into focus. He wondered why his mom would have bothered to wake him up and especially so late...but then he saw Jazzy! "Hey," Carter then smiled in response to the familiar face; it was a normal smile with happy dimples... at least until the night rushed back at him. Then it slipped away. He quietly turned down her offer for his taking a shower but looked up questioningly at her mention of writing a song.
He sat up straighter; moving his leg away from the ice pack and looking Jazzy up and down as she sat with her guitar. It looked like his but nicer... he didn't care to have a new one though. His was just great the way it was; full of memories of good times and songs. He wondered if Jazzy had been playing long and felt silly for being proud of his own small playing talent. He wouldn't have felt so special had he known they shared the talent.
She began to play and he was a bit surprised at how well it came out. Though it was shaky sometimes, it was good and the lyrics were strong. He found himself smiling slightly and couldn't help but to think that he couldn't have done better, himself. They had more in common than he'd thought.
"Well... I'm impressed, Jazzy." His small smile was still in place as was the residual groggy feeling. He didn't' react by jumping up and down and congratulating her on the new accomplishment and felt almost rude for that... but instead he just sat; kind of staring to the middle-distance as he thought over the words again in his head. He felt special... and certain that she hadn't meant to hurt him. But that didn't fix everything. He still wanted to cry in solitude but he wouldn't let anybody know that. He wanted to smile and pretend it was alright until it was safe to be a baby.
It might have been awkward for a moment or at least for Jazzy but Carter felt content in the silence. He felt like he should do something more or say something else that was complementary but couldn't' come up with anything that would sound legitimate. Anything his mind brought up was corny and sort of dumb... maybe he'd just let the silence and his sort-of-smile speak for itself.
